Week 9 College Football Recap: Down Go the Unbeatens

Week 9 was the final week before the College Football Playoff Rankings come out. All of the unbeatens were facing tough tests on the road. Except Alabama, who conveniently avoided upset Saturday with a bye. I feel like their schedule is the easiest to manage of any team. Byes before their biggest games, cupcakes before rivalry games, no true road games in the non-conference. Oh well. Only four unbeatens remain in the Power 5, and despite everyone freaking out about what we are going to do with five or six unbeaten teams, the same thing happens that happens every year: unexpected losses! What a concept! Check out the week 9 recap below…

Top 25 Poll
Others receiving votes: Florida State, Minnesota, Ohio, Oklahoma State, Troy
Dropped from the rankings: Toledo (17), Navy (19), Florida State (21)

25 (NR). Penn State (6-2) – I resisted putting them in my rankings last week after beating Ohio State out of principle. Any team who loses by 39 doesn’t deserve to be ranked, but there simply aren’t enough worthy teams. Plus, their offense has gotten going recently.
24 (NR). USC (5-3) – Sam Darnold makes them a completely different team offensively. They will be a tough out for any team.
23 (24). North Carolina (6-2) – IDLE
22 (25). Oklahoma (6-2) – The Sooners destroyed the Jayhawks on Saturday. They are really rolling offensively, but unfortunately their loss to Houston is looking less like a quality loss these days.
21 (23). LSU (5-2) – IDLE
20 (22). Colorado (6-2) – IDLE
Image result for wyoming football19 (NR). Wyoming (6-2) – Their monster upset of Boise State really says something about where Craig Bohl has this program. Their only losses were to Nebraska and a much improved Eastern Michigan.
18 (18). Florida (6-1) – It’s difficult to really take too much stock in this team. They have not looked impressive in any individual game, except in the first 3 quarters of their loss to Tennessee. And they postponed their only game that could have been considered a true test.
17 (16). Washington State (6-2) – The Cougars look the part, but they just cannot put teams away. That is going to be detrimental when they face the class of the Pac-12 (Washington).
16 (12). Boise State (7-1) – Boise losing in Wyoming isn’t necessarily a terrible loss, but it is a confusing one. Most of their struggles in 2016 have been at home, not against division rivals on the road. They have typically flexed their muscles in those instances.
15 (10). Utah (6-2) – They hung tight with Washington at home, which shows that they were actually underrated by the polls coming into the week.
14 (6). Baylor (6-1) – The Bears, on the other hand, had a disgusting loss to an awful Texas team.
13 (20). San Diego State (7-1) – The Aztecs have absolutely steamrolled every team they have played, other than during that strange loss to South Alabama. They are our clear Group of Five favorite right now.
12 (15). Auburn (6-2) – Auburn has really gotten going recently. They run game is looking as impressive as it ever has under Malzahn, even though they don’t have a running threat under center.
11 (7). West Virginia (6-1) – Losing at Oklahoma State provides no shame for the Mountaineers. The Cowboys might actually prove to be the most complete team in the conference when all is said and done.
10 (13). Western Michigan (8-0) – IDLE
9 (14). Texas A&M (7-1) – They had a cupcake game this week and benefit greatly by several teams above them getting take down. Their loss to Alabama was not exactly a great showcase for the team, but they are still as good as any other team in the SEC.
Image result for wisconsin football8 (8). Nebraska (7-1) – They lost in overtime to Wisconsin, where they actually controlled much of the game in every way except the scoreboard. I have a hard time downgrading them at all, but you can’t really move up for a loss.
7 (9). Ohio State (7-1) – Ohio State avoided back-to-back disasters by sneaking by Northwestern at home, setting up a huge top 10 game next week with Nebraska.
6 (5). Louisville (7-1) – Eventually, Lamar Jackson is going to taste defeat in one of these games. A close game with Virginia is an absolute embarrassment.
5 (11). Wisconsin (6-2) – Wisconsin has now managed the toughest schedule maybe ever with just two losses, one of which was in overtime.
4 (4). Clemson (8-0) – Clemson survived yet another close game with an inferior team. There’s a lot of 2014 Florida State in this team. They might get blasted in the first round of the playoffs by a real team.
3 (3). Michigan (8-0) – No rivalry upsets here. Michigan is as tough as any team, and when their offense is working, they are virtually unbeatable.
2 (2). Washington (8-0) – A ranked win on the road? Winning the game down the stretch? Style points? The Huskies are every bit as worthy of the top ranking as Alabama.
1 (1). Alabama (8-0) – IDLE

Top 5 Games for Next Weekend
5. Syracuse at Clemson (#4), 12:30PM TBD – It is a weak slate of games, so this is the type of game that must be highlighted. Cuse is coming off a bye, and following the FSU win for Clemson, this could be a game where they could come out a little sleepy.
PREDICTION: Clemson 21-20
4. Georgia Tech at North Carolina (#23), 9:30AM TBD – Georgia Tech is much better than they were a year ago, and North Carolina is not immune to putting up a stinker.
PREDICTION: Georgia Tech 34-27
3. Wisconsin (#5) at Northwestern, 9:00AM TBD – After all of those top 10 games that Wisconsin faced, they get a motivated and tough-minded Northwestern team on the road. Watch out, Badgers…
PREDICTION: Wisconsin 14-10
2. Alabama (#1) at LSU (#21), 5:00PM CBS – The game that has become one of the biggest rivalries in the game puts one team up as playing spoiler. LSU is absolutely capable of winning this game the way Leonard Fournette is playing.
PREDICTION: Alabama 23-21
1. Nebraska (#8) at Ohio State (#7), 5:00PM ABC – Nebraska is coming off a heartbreaker, and Ohio State is coming off a near upset. This game will say a lot of about these two teams.
PREDICTION: Ohio State 20-14

Heisman Trophy Watch
5. Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson – His team keeps winning, and he was a finalist last year. That should be enough for an invite by the near-sighted Heisman trust.
Image result for jabrill peppers4. Donnel Pumphrey, RB, San Diego State – He is the best running back in the nation. He has gone over 200 yards a handful of times this year already.
3. Jabrill Peppers, DB, Michigan – He is padding his stats with goal line touches. Harbaugh is doing everything he can to bill him as Charles Woodson Part 2.
2. Jake Browning, QB, Washington – He is having the most efficient season in college football history. He just doesn’t have the “moments” of…
1. Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville – It is almost like he lets terrible teams hang around so he can have that drive where he showcases his legs and huge arm. It’s almost unfair.

Rose Bowl: Ohio State over Washington State
Fiesta Bowl: West Virginia over Penn State

Week 7 College Football Recap: Road Test Weekend

This past weekend, two of the consensus top 5 teams in the nation went on the road to hostile environments against AP top 10 teams. This created mixed results, but both teams survived their tests. What really came out of this weekend was the uncertainty of the ACC. Clemson (who inexplicably stormed the field) and Louisville looked lousy at home against unranked teams, and the entire Coastal division has multiple losses. An upset of Clemson could mean the elimination of the conference for playoff consideration. Look at how all this breaks down below…

Top 25 Poll
Others receiving votes: Miami, South Florida, Virginia Tech
Dropped from the rankings: Miami (15), Tennessee (17), Virginia Tech (18), Arizona State (19), North Dakota State (20), Air Force (22), Mississippi (24)

25 (NR). Pittsburgh (5-2) – James Conner and company are really living on the edge, but they are hanging around in the ACC Coastal. This is the type of team that a Clemson or Louisville doesn’t want to see in the ACC Championship.
24 (NR). Arkansas (5-2) – Arkansas is a hard team to figure out. Week by week they are either a top 15 team or a team that should not receive votes.
23 (NR). North Carolina (5-2) – The Tar Heels are as Jekyll and Hyde as any team. They had a nice win over Miami this week.
22 (NR). Colorado (5-2) – Colorado rebounded from getting beat by USC with a whipping of a 5-1 ASU team.
21 (NR). Washington State (4-2) – Just like in 2015, WSU has completely put behind an FCS loss and is a threat in the PAC-12.
20 (23). Navy (4-1) – IDLE
19 (NR). Florida State (4-2) – The Noles look much better these days. I can see them really giving a fight to Clemson in that monster matchup.
Image result for donnel pumphrey18 (25). San Diego State (5-1) – After losing to South Alabama, Donnel Pumphrey has gone off and reestablished The Aztecs as a potential Group of Five representative in the New Years Six.
17 (21). Toledo (5-1) – Toledo is potentially even better this year than last year when they upset Arkansas. This is a team to keep an eye on.
16 (NR). Florida (5-1) – Florida isn’t really a good enough team to be ranked this high, but there really is no one else with 1 loss in the power 5.
15 (14). Houston (6-1) – Houston survived one of their toughest conference matchups by hanging on late against Tulsa.
14 (16). West Virginia (5-0) – I still don’t really buy West Virginia, but their defense really showed something by shutting down Texas Tech in Lubbock.
13 (13). Utah (6-1) – The Utes are flying under the radar, which is exactly where they want to be. They host the Huskies in two weeks.
12 (11). Western Michigan (7-0) – Western Michigan would be an easy Group of Five team any year, but when you have dynamite teams in Houston and Boise State, they might unfortunately get left out, despite two Big Ten wins.
11 (10). Boise State (6-0) – The Broncos aren’t as good as they were under Petersen, but this is the best team they have had since. They should roll through the MWC and get a crazy showdown with San Diego State in the title game.
Image result for nigel hayes sign10 (8). Wisconsin (4-2) – It’s hard to justify dropping them at all, but a second loss is a second loss, even if it was to the best team in the country in overtime.
9 (12). Nebraska (6-0) – Nebraska finally had a decent test on the road, and they survived.
8 (9). Baylor (6-0) – The Bears are a dark horse team for the playoff. No one wants to admit it, but they likely control their own destiny, barring the long shot chance that every conference has an unbeaten team.
7 (7). Louisville (5-1) – They struggled mightily on Friday night against a weak Duke team. They were not the same team they were before their heartbreaking loss at Clemson.
6 (6). Texas A&M (6-0) – IDLE
5 (3). Clemson (7-0) – The Tigers had to hold on and get lucky that NC State has no kicker in order to remain undefeated. The Wolfpack usually close those games out.
4 (4). Michigan (6-0) – IDLE
3 (5). Alabama (6-0) – The Tide absolutely destroyed Tennessee in Knoxville. Finally! We don’t have to hear about that team’s magical comebacks anymore!
2 (1). Washington (6-0) – IDLE
1 (2). Ohio State (6-0) – The Buckeyes had a very impressive win in Madison, despite making a one-dimensional offense look pretty good. If they lose before The Game, I would be shocked.

Top 5 Games for Next Weekend
5. BYU at Boise State (#11), THU 7:15PM ESPN – The Broncos need to be careful with BYU. The Cougars have had huge matchups every week, and every single one of them have been nail-biting. They won’t be afraid heading up to the blue turf.
PREDICTION: Boise State 45-42
4. Miami at Virginia Tech, THU 4:00PM ESPN – This is a huge game in the ACC Coastal. It could very well be the game that decides the division. Of course it is on a Thursday night, where crazy things happen each and every week.
PREDICTION: Virginia Tech 17-7
3. Arkansas (#24) at Auburn, 3:00PM ESPN – This is not a game with real SEC title implications, but it is one of the more unpredictable and intriguing matchups of next weekend. The Razorbacks are absolutely the better team, but this game could go either way.
Image result for alabamaPREDICTION: Auburn 29-23
2. NC State at Louisville(#7), 9:00AM ABC – Does NC State have anything left in the tank after choking away a win in Clemson? We will see when they match up with an angry Louisville team  with an early kickoff.
PREDICTION: Louisville 49-23
1. Texas A&M (#6) at Alabama (#1), 12:30PM CBS – A&M has given the Tide trouble in the past, as has QB Trevor Knight. I can see a potential close game here, but this isn’t where Bama loses.
PREDICTION: Alabama 34-17

Heisman Trophy Watch
5. Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson – As long as they keep winning, he will remain in the running, even though this season is much less impressive than his campaign a year ago.
Image result for jake browning4. Donnel Pumphrey, RB, San Diego State – He is moving up the all time rushing list and just scorching teams for 200+ seemingly every week.
3. Jabrill Peppers, LB/S/CB, Michigan – Last week, he had a game statistically that will undoubtedly swoon voters. He is getting carries on offense now.
2. Jake Browning, QB, Washington – He is on pace to break the all time passing efficiency record in college football, currently held by Russell Wilson.
1. Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville – He struggled this week with the rest of his team, but he made the plays down the stretch to seal it. He’s the obvious frontrunner.

Week 2 College Football Recap: A weak slate still produces compelling games

Week 1 had more marquee matchups than any opening week of college football ever. Week 2 was a joke on paper, but as usual in this sport, the cupcake games showed the true colors of the teams we weren’t really sure about. It also generated some truly amazing individual achievements from players, as well as muddied the water around the College Football Playoff picture. Check out my recap of week 2 below, as well as my bowl projections, Heisman watch, and which games to look forward to next week.
Top 25 Poll
Others receiving votes: Mississippi, Tennessee, UCLA, West Virginia
Dropped from the rankings: Oklahoma State (16), West Virginia (18), BYU (23)

25 (NR). Oregon (2-0) – The scores of their first two games have not been attractive, but the stats have been lopsided. The pieces are there, they just aren’t polished just yet.
24 (NR). Iowa (2-0) – The Hawkeyes did what so many Hawkeye teams haven’t been able to do in the past: put away archrival Iowa State.
23 (25). Nebraska (2-0) – They have had two lopsided wins against typically good Group of 5 schools.
22 (NR). San Diego State (2-0) – The longest win streak in America (other than Bama) continued with a win over California.
21 (22). Notre Dame (1-1) – The Irish have found their answer at quarterback. The loss to Texas stung, but they rebounded and took out Nevada in style.
Image result for nick chubb20 (11). Georgia (2-0) – The Bulldogs narrowly escaped against pathetic FCS Nicholls State a week after winning an overrated game against North Carolina. They need to figure out their QB situation (play Jacob Eason all game) and just take this year as a learning experience. They are not good enough to compete in 2016.
19 (21). South Florida (2-0) – USF is a scary Group of 5 squad. They annihilated traditional MAC power Northern Illinois in Week 2.
18 (24). Utah (2-0) – The Utes took down BYU in the Holy War. It was an incredible game, and even though turnovers might be an issue for the team moving forward, they had one of the most impressive week 2 wins.
17 (20). Pittsburgh (2-0) – The Panthers have their best team in several years. They took down former archrival Penn State in a wild game that no one could have predicted would be a shootout.
16 (15). LSU (1-1) – The Tigers had Jacksonville State head to Death Valley after their ugly loss to Wisconsin, and they looked sluggish offensively once again. They absolutely need to solve that if they want to have a chance to have a successful season in SEC play.
15 (19). Oklahoma (1-1) – The Sooners rebounded well against ULM, a team that has traditionally given trouble to teams overlooking them.
14 (13). Baylor (2-0) – The Bears had a slow start before taking over against in-state foe SMU.
13 (17). Boise State (2-0) – The Broncos beat an incredible road team on the blue turf when they took down Washington State. They look balanced and like a really scary Group of 5 team.
12 (12). Stanford (1-0) – They beat K-State in week 1 before having a bye. They are going to be totally solid as long as they keep feeding the best player in the sport Christian McCaffrey.
11 (8). Clemson (2-0) – All 2-0s are not created equal. Clemson looked lousy against Troy after looking lousy against a terrible Auburn team. They still have the offensive talent to remain cautiously optimistic, but this doesn’t look like a contender right now.
10 (10). Texas A&M (2-0) – The Aggies followed up beating UCLA with a complete joke of a game, winning 67-0 against Prairie View.
9 (9). Texas (2-0) – The Longhorns appear to have found their future at quarterback. I’m hesitant to say that they are back, but they are absolutely the most improved team in the nation.
8 (14). Louisville (2-0) – I was wrong about this team. They are absolutely electric, and after winning huge in a building that has given several ranked teams trouble in the recent past, they are officially a real threat in the ACC.
7 (7). Wisconsin (2-0) – Wisconsin followed up their big win over LSU with an offensive explosion.
Image result for corey clement
6 (4). Ohio State (2-0) – Their final scores aren’t indicative of how the Buckeyes played. JT Barrett has started incredibly slow in both weeks so far.
5 (5). Washington (2-0) – They have two straight efficient and dominating blowout wins. The defense is good enough to carry the team to the playoffs.
4 (6). Michigan (2-0) – It is difficult to not be completely impressed with Michigan, who have simply hammered and demoralized two straight opponents.
3 (3). Houston (2-0) – It was a difficult day for Houston after playing almost an entire quarter before having a nearly 4 hour weather delay, but that didn’t prevent Houston from holding Lamar to less than 100 yards and 0 points.
2 (2). Florida State (2-0) – Following their big comeback against Ole Miss, FSU wasted no time putting away a great FCS team in Charleston Southern.
1 (1). Alabama (2-0) – The Crimson Tide struggled for all of about 5 minutes against Western Kentucky before completely taking over and cementing their spot as the #1 team through 2 weeks.

Top 5 Games for Next Weekend
5. USC at Stanford (#12), 5:00PM ABC – This is always one of the most interesting games in Pac-12 play. Stanford had a week off, but they didn’t exactly look like world beaters in week one. USC took out their Bama frustration on Utah State. Stanford’s home field advantage is pedestrian. Upset?
PREDICTION: USC 23-20
4. Oregon (#25) at Nebraska (#23), 12:30PM ABC – Neither team is at the top of their game, but the matchup is absolutely compelling. Can Oregon win the type of game that they consistently lost a year ago? Can Nebraska actually win a big game in the non-conference?
PREDICTION: Nebraska 38-34
Image result for jalen hurts3. Alabama (#1) at Mississippi, 12:30PM CBS – The only team to beat Alabama in the regular season the last two years gets a home game against maybe the most obvious #1 team in the nation since…last year’s preseason Ohio State. If any team has a reasonable chance to beat Bama in the lousy SEC, it is Ole Miss.
PREDICTION: Alabama 24-9
2. Florida State (#2) at Louisville (#8), 9:00AM ABC – The best matchup in terms of rankings is the game that Gameday will be attending. I am not completely sold on Louisville’s chances to actually beat FSU, but Lamar Jackson against that defense is tasty.
PREDICTION: Florida State 48-27
1. Ohio State (#6) at Oklahoma (#15), 4:30PM FOX – The biggest game of the year was maybe the most anticipated game of the year…until Oklahoma got upended in week one. This is still the most interesting matchup. Can Ohio State withstand another slow start against a really powerful offense? We shall find out.
PREDICTION: Ohio State 42-28

Heisman Trophy Watch
5. Seth Russell, QB, Baylor – He is going to put up monstrous numbers in that offense that doesn’t show any sign of slowing up without Art Briles.
4. Greg Ward Jr, QB, Houston – He may have sat out week two with an “injury”, but the guy is perfect for the Tom Herman offense and will be in the discussion as long as they remain unbeaten.
3. Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford – He has only one week, but he absolutely looked the part of a Heisman contender in that week. His stats aren’t even as good as he played. He had a long punt return TD called back.
Image result for lamar jackson2. Deondre Francois, QB, Florida State – He has burst onto the scene as quickly as any new player in the nation. He has grasped the offense as well as Jameis Winston, but he also has wheels. He is a terrifying player in the ACC.
1. Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville – His stats are absolutely absurd. I don’t care about preseason favorites. Jackson is the obvious frontrunner after 2 weeks.

Week 5 College Football Recap: Rankings, Heisman, Playoff Projections

College football is officially bananas. I am going to rip up my previous top 25 polls and start over each week. There is no reason to have preconceived notions about any team. I mean, Ole Miss got spanked by Florida, who could barely take care of East Carolina. Ohio State looks pretty awful every week, yet I still have them #1 for some reason. Michigan State can’t put away freaking Purdue. LSU seemed totally content letting Eastern Michigan put up 20+ points. I’m done with the past. I’m starting fresh.
Top 25 Poll
Others receiving votes: Duke, Houston, Kansas State, Toledo, West Virginia
Dropped from the rankings: Wisconsin (15), West Virginia (17), Kansas State (20), Texas Tech (23), Miami (25)

25 (NR). Memphis (5-0) – The Tigers have one of the top offenses in the nation. We will see how true that statement is when they host Ole Miss after their bye next week.
24 (NR). California (5-0) – They struggled with both Washington schools, but they have survived. They are an offense that no one really wants to deal with in the Pac-12.
23 (7). Georgia (4-1) – They got humbled by Alabama at home with all the hype and even gave points in Vegas. Mark Richt will never win the big one.
22 (22). Florida State (4-0) – They still have not lost a game in the ACC since NC State upended the unbeaten Seminoles in 2012. It is a weak conference, but still. They just keep winning.
21 (NR). Mississippi (4-1) – I accidentally left them off last week, so that is how you can get shellacked and move into my top 25. It seemed fluky watching them get dismantled by the Gators, but it was emphatic.
20 (19). Boise State (4-1) – This is a team that will probably not lose the rest of the season. Their loss at BYU seems more and more confusing.
19 (18). Oklahoma State (5-0) – They survived a scare from the well-coached Kansas State squad looking for the upset. No one really knows what to make of this team.
18 (NR). Iowa (5-0) – The Hawkeyes were able to get out of Madison with a win…you can’t say that about many teams in the last decade. It was ugly, but that is how they win.
17 (6). UCLA (4-1) – The Bruins came in thinking of national titles after crushing Arizona on the road under the lights, but then the favor was returned by the seemingly dead in the water Sun Devils.
16 (11). USC (3-1) – IDLE.
15 (2). Notre Dame (4-1) – Their wins do not have the same luster they seemed to previously, but they had a nice comeback attempt against a really good Clemson team.
14 (9). Oklahoma (4-0) – At some point, the defense for the Sooners has got to start playing. West Virginia looked lost, which is rare for them. They were lucky to have such a big win because they really didn’t play all that well overall.
13 (14). Alabama (4-1) – Yes, they stomped all over Georgia, but their loss to Ole Miss loses some of its prestige seeing the Rebels get kicked around by Florida.
12 (10). Stanford (4-1) – This team might be playing at the highest level of any team in the country at this moment. They are going to be right there in the thick of the playoff hunt when all of the teams get a loss (and they all will).
11 (12). Northwestern (5-0) – They are going to be the ones helping Stanford get there if they can keep shutting teams out and winning in that beautiful Big Ten West way.
10 (16). Baylor (4-0) – They simply cannot be held under 8 touchdowns. They are going to terrify every team they line up against.
9 (NR). Florida (5-0) – I am still stunned by the beating they put on the Rebels on Saturday. They aren’t that good, are they? Maybe they are?
8 (1). Ohio State (5-0) – They have flashes of being the team that was the obvious national championship pick, but they just can’t get off to a good start. They will lose one very soon.
7 (24). Michigan (4-1) – After a second straight shutout, it seems clear that Harbaugh has the team right back where it was before Hoke. They might win the conference.
6 (21). Clemson (4-0) – After a couple underwhelming efforts, Clemson proved that they can really play well against elite competition (unless that team is South Carolina).
5 (5). Michigan State (5-0) – You just can’t let Purdue score 21 points in a row in the second half and expect to be able to beat legitimate Power 5 conference teams. They will lose one soon.
4 (8). LSU (4-0) – The Tigers looked pretty bad against Eastern Michigan. If they didn’t have a horse at running back, they would look very ordinary. But they do have him, and he alone makes them maybe the team to beat in the country.
3 (13). Texas A&M (5-0) – You would be hard pressed to find a team that has looked more impressive on paper and on the field than the Aggies. They are incredibly exciting to watch too.
2 (3). Utah (4-0) – IDLE.
1 (4). TCU (5-0) – Oh, Texas hahaha… The Frogs got life from that miracle win last week, and they are going to charge toward a playoff berth the rest of the way.

Top 5 Games for Next Weekend
5. Navy at Notre Dame (#15) – This is always a good game, and Keenan Reynolds is going for the FBS rushing TD record and is still unbeaten. It should be quite a show.
PREDICTION: Notre Dame 24-20
4. Florida (#9) at Missouri – Missouri is not an easy place to play, and Florida is coming off their biggest win in years. This is a sneaky good game here.
PREDICTION: Florida 17-14
3. TCU (#1) at Kansas State – This is the type of overlooked game that could give the Frogs issues. K-State can lull you to sleep with their fundamentals, but they are always somehow in the game. Watch out for this one…
PREDICTION: TCU 27-25
2. California (#24) at Utah (#2) – Utah got a week off to prepare for the high paced Golden Bear attack, but that might slow their momentum as well. It is almost impossible to win in Salt Lake, though.
PREDICTION: Utah 35-24
1. Northwestern (#11) at Michigan (#7) – This is going to be an ugly game offensively, but it is going to be a beautiful football game featuring two teams who have multiple shutouts through five games.
PREDICTION: Michigan 13-9

Heisman Trophy Watch
5. Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia – The loss hurt his team’s chances, but he extended his all time Georgia-best streak of 100 yard games. He is one of the elite players and will be invited if he keeps it up.
4. Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State – If they have finally figured out that all they need to do is hand the ball to the beast, then he will be in this discussion by season’s end.
3. Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma – He is more of a dark horse contender, but he really is rolling in that air raid offense in Norman.
2. Trevone Boykin, QB, TCU – He is already setting records at TCU, and his numbers this year are only going to get better the deeper he gets into Big 12 play.
1. Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU – Unless he gets injured or completely shut down by someone, he is going to run away with this thing.
